Sherry Tasting Kit
Sherry comes in all different shapes and sizes! We've chosen three very different and specific styles so you can truly taste the region.
Allergens: Sulphites
Wine 1: NV Manzanilla, En Rama, La Guita
Grape Variety: 100% Palomino FinoCountry: Spain
Region: Sanlucar de Barrameda, Jerez
Producer: Hijos de Rainera Pérez Marín
Style: Fortified Wine
ABV: 15%
Tasting notes: Green Olive, Chamomile, Almond
La Guita is basically the only wine produced at the bodegas Hijos de Rainera Pérez Marín in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The name comes from the old Andalucian slang 'guita', meaning 'cash' (its founder was renowned for wanting to be paid in cash). The more common meaning though is 'string' (hence 'guitar'), highlighted by the fact that every bottle has a string around its neck.
Wine 2: Fino, En Rama, Fernando de Castilla
Grape Variety: 100% Palomino Fino
Country: Spain
Region: Jerez
Producer: Fernando de Castilla
Style: Fortified Wine
ABV: 15%
Tasting notes: Baked Apple, Sea Salt, Almond
Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla is in the historic centre of Jerez. Their 'En Rama' is a special Fino bottled only in Spring and Autumn, when the flor is thickest. Each bottle is marked with the bottling date. 'En Rama' wines are bottled unfiltered and unrefined - straight from the barrel - to preserve the intensity and complexity of the wine. This Sherry is straw-coloured - darker than a normal Fino - as it has not been carbon-filtered.
Wine 3: NV Cream, Cruz del Mar, César Florido, Jerez
Grape Variety: Palomino and Moscatel de Alejandría
Country: Spain
Region: Jerez
Producer: César Florido
Style: Fortified Wine
ABV: 17.5%
Tasting notes: Prune, Walnut, Fig
A small, quality-focused Bodegas situated in Chipiona, a small coastal town close to Sanlucar de Barrameda. Unlike many other sherry houses, Cesar Florido own all their own vineyards.
Unlike most Creams, which are blends of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez, this is a blend of approximately 75% Oloroso and 25% Moscatel. This is due to the location of Cesar Florido’s winery – which is in Chipiona, the home of Moscatel, and makes for a fresher, more floral style.
